Check out my latest listings on Ebay.  You can get a steal occasionally!

The Bad Ebay Buyer!

Speaking of Ebay I recently received my first positive feedback - with a really negative statement from a buyer. The reason positive feedback has to be given is because Ebay expect you to follow a proper process before leaving negative feedback so rude people get round it this way.

here is the story. If you worry about sellers with negative feedback this is an insight into how we get it. I had a little one-off vintage dress on ebay with a Buy it now price of around $26 or a make an offer. I had an offer of $20 (that I would normally consider too low) and decided to take it as I was busy preparing for the Vintage show and was clearing space.  The dress was in perfect condition.  I might add that my prices are at wholesale levels for these vintage items. The dress was delivered speedily and the next message I recieved was:

Buyer: "Dear rishabha, (this is automated by Ebay)
very disapointed in the dress cost me $20 and its not red its maroon
- pink"

This was a very blunt email and quite rude in my opinion she spoke as if the $20 was a huge price when she had received a $6 discount. As the dress was not maroon (it was a rich deep crimson red) I wrote back as follows.

Seller (Me) "Hi (automated Ebay ID goes here as she did not give me her name)

In my opinion it is red, a deep rich crimson definately not maroon - which is a very dark colour.
My screen shows the colour very accurately.
There are many shades of red, scarlet may be the colour you were after?
Scarlet is a red with a lot of yellow in it and is very bright like a fire engine red.
I am happy to refund the dress but I do not refund postage. If you return it to me in the same condition I will refund as soon as the dress is received.

As you are unhappy with the dress and this is a good quality vintage dress refunding is not an issue for me.
Regards
Linda"

Then I received this one:

Buyer: "Dear rishabha,

my goodness it is know where near the colour in the picture the photo shows a very red dress not this colour at all you are very wrong indeed take another look all my friends here are shocked you said that as it is so not red like the photo shows at all"
- pink"

I felt I need to explain the reason colour errors happen on computers as I feel the buyer has misunderstood the difference in monitors point I made. And has not commented  about the refund I am planning to make on the dress.  She seems to require more? Was I to say I was a bad person and I deliberately sent her the wrong colour dress?

Seller to : Dear pink-...,

Monitors do vary, however if I had described the deep crimson colour of the dress as maroon another purchaser would have said it was red. When a colour is critical to me I always ask about it first as computer colours rarely show up exactly what you will get.
Also everyone calls colours different things, and there are many shades of red. I recently bought shoes described as emerald by the seller when they were turquoise. I wanted turquoise and took a gamble on it but if I had wanted emerald I would have been very disappointed.

All I can do is refund the dress, it is fair enough that you did not expect the deep red you received, but I think your friends would be more shocked if I had refused to refund as many sellers do.

Can I assume you will return the dress?
Thanks again
Linda

This was greeted with the following response:

Dear rishabha,

i have never had such a rude ebayer you said it is the same colour as the photo and it isnt thats my point you are so argumentative and rude how dare you threaten me with with the fact you are going to refund people like you deserve negative feedback all thoses excuses you have given me about the colour red my god you do go on and on IT ISNT THE SAME AS IN THE PHOTO WHAT PART OF THAT DONT YOU UNDERSTAND!!!!!!!

(Comment here (not an email to buyer) Well in my opinion it is a pity that some people are not happy that you will refund, or cannot understand that my high end designer monitor shows more accurate colours than her monitor does I expect. She was I believe more rude than I was.  When did I threaten her?

I received the following comment to my feedback: NEVER DEALT WITH SUCH RUDE LADY & DRESS HAS PULLS IN IT NOT HAPPY DONT DEAL WITH

(Comment not email to buyer) If you notice in her feedback  the dress now has pulls in it she says...funny that was not mentioned; if the dress has pulls in it now I believe she will have put them into it as it was perfect when it left me. What do you think? please email me and let me know I welcome the input. I will be sending this into Ebay with a request to remove the unjustified bad feedback when a refund is offered. As you may note she does not say she is returning it. I once had a sale where the dress was not as expected due to underarm fade that I had not noticed, I refunded but let the buyer keep the dress. Perhaps this lady is a friend of hers and hoped for the same deal...
